What is yoga?

Yoga is many things to many people. Here at Funke, the focus is upon developing fitness of the body and mind, in order to relieve stress and create a feeling of overall well-being.

What are the benefits of yoga?

There are so many! Different people experience different benefits, but the most common are: Increased muscle tone and flexibility, improved strength and endurance, decreased pain, weight loss, improved breathing, better balance, better posture, increased energy, clearer mind, as well as stress and anxiety relief.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable clothing that you can move around in. Wearing layers will help you adjust if you get hot or cold. Yoga is best practiced barefoot. You will be asked to remove your shoes in the lobby before entering the studio. It is perfectly fine if you prefer to leave your socks on.

Should I bring my own mat?

Yes! If you have a yoga mat, it is recommended that you bring it. (we do have a number of mats available if you do not have your own.) It is also recommended to bring a bottle of water.

I’m not flexible – can I do yoga?

Yes! Yoga creates flexibility so you will be the perfect candidate for yoga.  Remember, it’s called “practice” because none of us are perfect!

If I have an injury or medical condition – can I practice?

As long as you’ve checked with a medical professional, then yes!  Yoga can be therapeutic in many cases, as long as you respect your personal limits.  Also, be sure to let your instructor know of any injuries or conditions so that the appropriate modifications can be made.

Is there a conflict between yoga and my religion?

No. Funke Yoga does not offer any spiritually oriented philosophy. The focus is upon developing fitness of the body and mind.
